Will the Catholic Church lose its charter by government to operate as a church now that it is being charged as practicing systemic, authorized and endemic abuse of children?
This is astounding. It is not just a few bad apples. As we see in the headlines, it is still happening. As a lifelong Catholic, the hurt for those poor children was all ready raw after the US and Australia reports. This new one leaves me clueless about the organization I thought I had known my entire life. Are they going to be revoked?

i could only hope so. but probably not. You can buy your way out of anything
Let me ask you, as a Catholic, Is your faith based on a Priest? Is your faith based on what a fellow Christian in a different city does?
OR
Is your faith based on beliefs, philosophy, logic, and reason? Is it based on a relationship with God and the belief that there is a right and wrong way to show reverence and worship?
IF you religion is based entirely on Priests, Popes, and the image of your church in the public eye, then by all means... leave the faith.
IF however, your faith is deeper then mere men and their mistakes..then you have reason to continue to be Catholic.
<<Will the Roman Catholic Church lose its charter?>>
NO, because these are reformatories, so their operation is not systematic to ALL Catholic ran organizations.
They are in deed a few rotten apples.
The Catholic church is the largest non-governmental provider of health care, education, and relief aid in the world.
There are over 600 Hospitals in the US alone, accounting for roughly 1 in 5 patients being seen in a Catholic facility.
There are Catholic run Orphanages and Elementary schools which have VERY high ratings of care and highly respected.
Some of the most high respected Universities and Colleges are Catholic ran institutions.
The 3 points many brush over is WHY is the Irish government paying out resitution?.
The Answer is that these were government funded institutions so the Irish Government should have either known about it, or should have. SO, to a lesser degree, the Irish government has culpability here also and yet did nothing. There was even a Pulitzer Prize winning book about it that the media is not touching.
As usual, the Catholic church is made out to be the evil one, and everyone else a victim.
The second fact is that these abuses are partly cultural. Our views on appropriate punishment have chagned drastically over the past decades, a lot in the last 16 years. This report spans 60 years up until the 80s. It takes actions done almost around the turn of the century and applies modern day standards of safety and punishment.
I am not saying that it is morally relative OR that NO abuse occured, but none the less, we need to realize that we are looking back..so we need to be fair in our evaluation.
The other fact which does not make the abuse OK, but makes it slightly different from other abuse cases is that much of the abuse was perpetrated by fellow students to each other. The abuse was not entirely done by the nuns and clergy. I know this doesn't make it OK, but it is a point that the media is not making much mention of. While ultimately it is the Priests fault for not stopping it, the media is making a concerted effort to make it seem as if the Priest themselves performed ALL the abuse and the kids did nothing.
I know that many State Ran Universities had to put in place new rules about hazing new Fraternity pledges in the 90s. because the public's attitude towards these rituals had changed. I believe a similar thing is happening here in Ireland.
Don't get me wrong.. there is REAL abuse going on, and it can not be condoned.
BUT.. to let that over shadow the overwhelming good that the Catholic church does AND to forget the teachings of the Catholic church is just as big of a travesty.
"...the organization I thought I had known my entire life."
Did you miss the "sea change" in 1958? Depending on how long your "entire life" has been, there was a rupture in the Doctrine with the Council Vile in 1962-65. Such a rupture means one of 3 things, the church apostatizes, modernizes its doctrine, protestantizes or denies its Founder, or defects entirely into ecumenical one-world heresy. In other words, it becomes the Church of Satan. This makes the Protestants happy.
But not so fast. The True Church cannot disappear or end. It has a divine Promise. You just need to know what and where it is. This will make the Protestants unhappy.
Since the True Church exists, where is it? The Dogma of the Church states that the Church will eclipse (St. John) and that the "evening sacrifice will end," Daniel. Both of these prophecies are at present in fulfillment as far as the "organization you thought you knew" is concerned. Whether prophecy is ever reversed, it has not happened before. We do know that God does not warn His creatures twice. Let's conclude that the Church is in Eclipse until the Last Days, therefore. In suppression, it is nearly hidden. Yet, daily it offers to Christ His holy unblemished Sacrifice through its valid Mass of Trent. Where is it hiding? It administers the valid Sacraments to its Faithful. It is the Church of All Time, still there, solid, holy and pure, the Church of St. Peter, of all the popes, of all the centuries. If you want it you must find that Church, the one you "thought you had known your entire life," and if you didn't know the True Church, then it is time you do know it. God reaches us through our Intellect and no other way. He does not reach us through our impressions of what "seems" like His Church.
But, perhaps the "organization you thought you knew" was not this True Church at all. Perhaps you always THOUGHT your impostor Church was, in your experience, the "true church." How will you believe anyone to the contrary now?
Later, as the false church became more and more vile, it "seemed" to have changed from one thing to something "else," But did it? Unbeknownst to most, it had been insidiously changing all along, like the frog in the heating pot of water, until eventually some of its more daring members would dare make the statement, "This is NOT THE ORGANIZATION I THOUGHT I HAD KNOWN" and they try to jump out!
Do you have any idea which Church you actually knew as the "organization you remember?" I only ask because if you were at the Age of Reason at the time of the death of Pope Pius XII you would be one of the rare Catholics who kept the Faith. I was given the True Faith 20 years before the Vile Council, and I held on through its turmoils, Vile, Vicious and Vehement. It was not easy. I was the only one I could find.
You are still thinking that a True Holy Instrument of God, His Word, can turn Vile, Vicious and Vehement. It is an obvious sign that this is the Bad Church, not the Church of Christ any longer. No one said that it couldn't happen, by the way, even though you will hear 20,000 uneducated dissenting loonies jumping in here to defend blindly what they do not and will not understand.
Do some investigating at the following reading sites. After all, no one needs to know you are doing some private reading. You will never be able to get these locations without the help of a Catholic who knew what Vatican Vile was all about when it was actually going on, when the true Catholics knew how to contact each other. Fifty years later, we still know, but the new people cannot find us. Or they have been "told" to fear what they ought to have naturally loved, the True Church of Christ.
You have perhaps your final choice at this time. I don't know when I will be back, and I am nearly an internet standalone among my peers.
Sorry, I'm American and don't understand this "lose its charter by government to operate as a church". We have freedom of religion here and that could never happen in the United States.
Try Education.
Instances of abuse are fewer than in other denominations by far, are you going to "revoke" ALL Religion?
How about the School system,, instances of abuse are MUCH higher in Public Schools, are you going to "Revoke" all Schools and close them down?
How about Boy Scouts, Little League, Girl Scouts, Family get togethers. Did you know that most Abusers are Married Men? Are you going to 'Revoke" Marriage?
Good grief, educate yourself please before you continue to make a fool of yourself.
Peace!
The Church predates any existing govt by millenia. Who grants the Church a "charter"? Pax Christi
