The hardness of fighting in trenches for days on end. Plus the g;ooks played a lot of mind games. They'd cease fire in the middle of battles to make everything quiet and confuse the American side.
Unfortunately, the Americans also killed a lot of g'ook civilians. All those things take a toll on people because people were not meant to kill others on that sort of mass level.
all war causes ptsd. my dad fought in vietnam. imagine being in a foreign jungle not knowing when you were going to be attacked.
Because having an enemy wanting to sneak up on you with the Intention of killing you Is very traumatic,even If you didn't see front line action.
The terror & stress of these circumstances causes psychological changes,like P.T.S.D
Just like all PTSD - fear, terrifying experiences.
you would be traumatized if you were fighting in a brutal war too
