I'm doing some research, and wanted to know the following:
What is the Country Average cost for constructing a single family home by square foot.
Then I would like the cost it would take to construct a second floor, the average cost per square foot.
Basically the average price, of both the cost of the first floor of a home to be constructed compared to the cost of the second floor.
I hope that is specific enough, couldn't find any reliable information anywhere. Any info will help.
Web Links greatly appreciated.

your question is too academic to know. You're too much in hypothetical land to know.
An addition would seem to require some demolition, some matching into existing construction that would add cost. Where as new construction would be cheaper in someways, the foundation, the hook-ups, the land, and any demolition would all be factors in the new construction costs. There are so many variables, I don't know how to answer. I would check with insurance companies, they have figures for this, and that would likely be the most equivalent comparison.
